It was getting on for lunch when Marie prepared a pitcher of juice drink. It wasn't for herself, though, but her stepson and his friends who were playing down in the basement.

To clarify, it wasn't a game they were playing but music. It sounded quite melodic. Marie even recognised some of the tunes her stepson's friend, Jose sang while he played bass, accompanied by the other band members, Dwayne on lead guitar and Paul on drums. No keyboard player, mind, despite advertising at college for one.

It was at their local college where all but Troy and Dwayne are studying different subjects that they met up and decided to form a band to play at weddings and the like.

They were quite good, both at their individual craft and as a group. All the same, none of them had aspirations to become the next pop sensation, relying on their academic studies to bear fruits in more professional, sustained employment rather than an overnight sensation that quickly fizzles out.

Marie waited until they had finished playing their current song before making her presence known. During the short wait, she gazed at them, far from star struck but attentive all the same.
