After returning from my assignment in Amsterdam, I called Bob Piotrowski, my editor and owner of the magazine. I told him I'd have a final draft on his desk in two weeks.

"Send it to Gwendolyn."

If you'll recall, sixty-year-old Gwendolyn was Bob's right-hand person; the woman who made the organization run smoothly.

When I e-mailed her my story. I strongly suggested, given the lascivious nature of the subject matter, even for our magazine, that she edit and format the article in the magazine's preferred style. Our preferred style for all our articles was to write in the third person. I was just an observer watching and reporting the action.

I'd tried to be explicit as possible without being pornographic. In other words, I'd eliminated some much too graphic words, while at the same time making sure the reader understood exactly what happened in those brothels.

Three weeks later, on a Friday, I was in the office and met with Gwendolyn. "Kaz, after reading and editing your story and making some minor suggestions, this is exactly what Bob was looking for. Make the changes and I'll recommend that it'll be the lead in the April issue. Our readers are going to love it." ...
