The Breeding Programme

The year is 2030. In 2023, a virus swept the globe. Initially resembling the common cold, it seemed relatively innocuous until a week later. This "flu" gained the nickname of the Black Widow virus. It killed 99.999% of the male population, and the key to immunity came down to three genes on the X chromosome. As females have two sets of them, they were automatically immune due to having all the firepower of these genes in two sets. TM-57A, TX-31B and TT-81C were responsible for creating an immune system response to this virus, stopping it in its tracks within 72 hours. Males with exceptionally strong examples of these genes, plus a fourth, YT-31D granted these rare individuals the defences necessary to kill it. As a result, the surviving males were placed in cyro stasis until it could be determined how to eradicate this virus via vaccination and/or gene therapy.

To those rare males around the world that awoke from cryo stasis 7 years later, it seemed to them as if only a single day had passed. This story follows five of these males. To help them transition into what would be a very different world, each of them was assigned personal assistants. Initially a nurse to check their health, a psychologist to check their mental health, and two more if required for the transition and integration to a new society.
