I was so pleased that Laura Swenson was my Big Sister. It was embarrassing enough to tell her that I'd never been on a date; never held a boy's hand; never kissed a boy, and of course I was a virgin.

She didn't laugh at me.

In fact, she was sympathetic. "Hannah, an inexperienced boy like Brandon isn't for you. Here's the other question, are you ready for this?"

"Oh Laura, I'd do just about anything to have a boyfriend." I meant it. "I don't know what you call it, but I ache for some love and affection. Are those the right words?"

"I know what you mean. When I'm away from Roger for more than a few days, I get like that. Let me do this. Let me talk to some of the girls, and we'll come up with a guy that will be perfect for your first time. Hannah, your first time should be special."

"Thank you for understanding, Laura."

"Hannah, my first time wasn't so special. It was in the back seat of a car. I was eighteen and so was he. He was barely inside me before it was over. I want you to have something much more special."

Laura insisted that I be there with some of the senior girls and the alums who were in town for our ceremony where we became sisters.

She explained the problem. "I don't want my Little Sister to have an experience like I had." A number of women nodded.

"I agree, it was awful for me," a sister in her forties said.

"Mine was a disaster. Hannah, you deserve better."

I was pleased with the support I was getting. Laura spoke up again, "if not one of the boys from Delta Mu, then who?"

Names were thrown out, some rejected outright, others bandied about then rejected. Natalie Salvatore, who might have been in her forties shouted out "Jeff Raynaud."

"Professor Raynaud? He must be close to fifty. Hannah shouldn't have an old man for her first time."

"I'd never do an old man." one of the girls, a senior said.

"Hear me out," said Natalie. "A few of you were here when I was an undergraduate. You might recall that I had an affair with Professor Raynaud. It was a bit of a scandal at the time, but it passed. Anyhow, I've had three husbands and a number of lovers. I may have been a young, impressionable girl at the time, but to this day, he was the best lover I ever had."

"Tell us the juicy details," one sister asked. We all nodded and laughed.

"Maybe if I have a few martinis. Anyhow, Hannah, I still talk to Jeff once in a while. I can say something on your behalf if you'd like."

Laura spoke before I had a chance, "thank you, sister. I'm sure that Hannah will be very pleased with Professor Raynaud, but after this meeting, Natalie, be my guest at the Suds Bucket. They don't make the best martinis but after two or three it probably won't matter."

There was laughter and numerous sisters said they'd join Laura and Natalie.

It took only two martinis for Natalie Salvatore to share the story of her affair with Professor Jeff Raynaud.

"I was in the Student Center having coffee; it was crowded and he was looking for a place to sit. There was an empty chair across from me.

"I was already a TUPH, and lost my virginity during my high school years.
