As you might imagine, I was walking on air. At home I took a long, bubble bath.

The week went by slowly as I waited for Bryan to call. He didn't call then, not the following week or the following month.

I'd never really thought about it. I got into a good college because I worked hard and did well in high school. I did well in college and got into law school. I was offered a good job with the law firm and worked my way to partner. Like I said, I didn't sleep my way to the top. I worked hard.

Karma had nothing to do with it, but now . . .

Every day I picked up Jamie after football practice. It was my first Thursday with him; it was warm and I was standing by my car in the shade waiting for him.

Before he came out, some of the coaches were leaving for the day. One of the coaches looked at me, I looked at him. "Miss McHugh?"
