Kate Norton wasn’t through with Mrs. Mabel Conover just yet.

Mabel Conover was not going to be a laughingstock. She wouldn’t permit it. She sent Lucy and Gerald to Rhode Island where she was under the impression that a marriage like theirs wouldn’t raise too many questions.

They found a preacher to marry them, and a home in the colored section of Providence.

But that’s not all that Mrs. Norton’s Pinkerton found. Mrs. Allsop had a married daughter living in Chicago. Amy Allsop Knight’s husband, Nick, worked in the Allsop meatpacking business. He traveled the country convincing ranchers to send their beef to the Allsop’s butcheries. He was rarely home, but when he was Amy insisted that he fill her cunny.

By the time, Kate Norton had her colored boys trained, Amy and Nick had three children, but Nick was still gone for long periods of time.

Kate Norton thought that James Lee might be just the one to seduce the married Amy. Tall, handsome with a gift that could sell anything to anyone. Kate smiled as she thought of James Lee, he could sell anything to anyone, and she was certain he could talk anyone out of anything. She thought he’d have little difficulty talking Amy Allsop Knight out of her knickers.

Kate’s Pinkerton found that Nick Knight was on a business trip to Europe to find if it was worth it to have European farmers ship their cattle to the United States and the Allsop meatpacking factories.

Amy Allsop had a nanny for the children and once a month or so attended some gala for a gallery opening or fund raiser. Kate made sure that James Lee attended all of them and made certain that James Lee made a significant donation to whatever charity was being aided.

It was a given that he’d run into Amy Knight, who also made generous contributions. “Mrs. Knight, I know you might find this unseemly, but we do have something in common, may I have this dance?” He said as they sat at a table.

For Amy, it was just that, a dance. “That would be lovely, Mr. Lee. After your generous gift, it’s the least a lady can do.”

For James Lee, it was a foot in the door, and that’s all he needed.

“Mrs. Knight, I’m surprised that a beautiful woman like you is unaccompanied.”
