Sitting at the bar nursing a now warm beer, I sat and waited for her to arrive. I glanced at my watch and confirmed it was still 6:20 p.m. on Thursday. I had gotten off early from work, partial in fact due to nervous energy that built all day about this evening’s dinner with a friend of mine.

She and I had worked together almost a year ago and kept in loose contact with one another through emails and finally made it a point to get together. A slight age difference in us was always a joke, she being in her lower 30’s to my lower 20’s, but our talks were always easy going and I looked forward to emails from her all the time. I even flirted with her heavy sometimes and light comments here and there to allow her the knowledge that I was attracted to her, nor cared about the age. She would brush them off and continue on with stories of work, dance classes, and home life, as I would just talk about work and life.

As I sat there on the bar stool in a pair of black casual pants, black casual leather shoes, and a midnight blue long sleeve shirt, I had my jacket next to me to save her a seat at the bar till her arrival. The band had finished it set of swing and up-tempo jazz and everyone was feeling pretty good, but not as good as I felt when I finally saw her step into the club!
