I rushed into the office at 10 minutes after 8. Ms J was sitting at her desk as usual, and she looked calm enough, but I could hear the telltale pat of her foot underneath the desk.

I sighed, "Yes ma'am." I went to the back room to put my bag down in its little corner and sign my time in. I opened the left drawer and pulled out the paper that held the hours that I had worked for the last three weeks.
