I pushed the door open with my knee, trying not to drop the groceries I had in my arms. It had been almost a week since you had left for your trip for work, and I was really starting to miss you. It had been a long long time since we had really even seen each other for any real length of time, much less spent any quality time by ourselves.

Our apartment was completely quiet as I sat the groceries on the counter and walked around the bar to put them away. My clothes clung to me, as my body started to adjust from the hot sticky night outside, to the cool air conditioning. Just as I was putting the last of our groceries away I happened to look down and see our puppy, Max, staring up at me. I smiled and knelt down to pet him. He yawned, still sleepy from his nap, that I had obviously woken him up from.

I stood up and looked at the clock. It was 8:30, and had I gone into work, I would have been there only an hour. As I turned to toss the last plastic grocery bag into the garbage, the light coming from the crack under our bedroom door caught my eye. I looked around and for the first time noticed your boots sitting beside the couch, and I couldn't hide my smile.

"Baby? Are you home?" I called, with no reply.
