She really liked these overnight flights. They usually weren’t crowded, and most of the passengers who took them spent their time either reading or sleeping.

Tonight was no exception. There were 13 people in Business and only 2 in First Class. She’d lucked out and gotten First for the flight. As she walked down the aisle, she looked at the old woman sitting up near the front, engrossed in one of those trashy romance novels with the lurid covers with the half-naked men on them. The lady had a pair of headphones over her ears, and soft classical music drifted out of the foam-covered speakers. The other passenger was a man in a business suit. He was maybe 35 or 40, with short-cropped blond hair. He’d stowed a briefcase in the overhead compartment and was quietly sipping an iced tea and looking thoughtful. Or bored. Every time she passed him, she caught a whiff of his cologne, and she felt a strong urge to un-bore him.

She’d had these feelings before on different flights. Every now and then, one or two men might tickle her fancy. Occasionally, she’d talked to them during the flights, and they’d exchanged things like phone numbers, or she’d get the number of their motel rooms in the cities they were traveling to. Only 3 times had she ever gone to those rooms, and usually the evening would end in bed. She’d had a few men that way, and even though there was never any thought to a lasting relationship, the encounters were never boring. ...
