Emma had got dressed and left me to go to work – even though she was more than 2 hours late! I'd stayed in bed for an hour or so just daydreaming and playing over and over again in my mind the events of the last 24 hours or so. Eventually, I'd dragged myself out of bed, showered, dressed and headed off to work knowing full well that keeping my mind on the job would be impossible.

Thankfully Emma wasn't in the office when I arrived and the whiteboard showed that she was off-site visiting clients. My secretary knew that something had happened because I very rarely get into the office late but bless her, she didn't say anything – she just put my coffee on my desk, passed me my messages and left, with a knowing smile on her face!

I was due to leave town on a two day business trip the following day so had no chance to either see or speak to Emma – and I didn't want to seem that keen, especially with a husband very much in the picture.

The next two days were a bit of a blur – I just couldn't get her out of my mind and was relieved when the meetings on my last afternoon away were cancelled and I could get home early.

I walked through the door to the sound of the phone ringing – I dumped my suitcase in the hall and picked up the handset.
