The Halloween Party

Halloween has different meanings to different people. For children, there are the obvious festivities of trick or treat, of hobgoblins and spooky nights. For others, it’s a chance to live out their fantasies. For me, it is a constant reminder of a night that changed my life.

I had gone to the annual Halloween bash at the local Travelodge. Most of the tourists had left for the winter but a few remained and welcomed the opportunity to join in the reverie. Some even attended in costumes. I had put together an odd assembly of clothes for my costume. I wore a short black miniskirt, black thigh high stockings, black spike heeled shoes, a black bikini top, black cape and heavy make up. I was a VAMP-ire. And it was one day past my 18th birthday.

The party was simply incredible. Two bands, lots of people and lots of smoke. I was sneaking back inside when a man stepped directly in front of me, barring my way.
