The Glove

He sat at a table in the corner of the inn, with his back to the wall as he watched the door. His dark hooded cloak covered his face almost completely, but there was an inexplicable intensity coming from the shadows of that hood. Watching the door was a habit learned through hard lessons. He didn't expect anyone, but that was normally when they came at you.

He drank deeply from his mug, emptied it actually, and was waiting for a refill of the dark ale so hard to find in his homeland when she walked in. A woman in armor was not an uncommon sight in the frontier, but one with her beauty and grace most certainly was. She sat at the end of a crowded bench, but one look at her weapons and the steely gaze of her eyes discouraged even the most inebriated men from doing more than glance at her. She ordered a mug of ale and surveyed the room warily.

Her crystalline eyes were her most stunning feature, seeming to see through to the souls of those whom she stared at for longer than a moment. She swept the room with her eyes, stopping on the figure clad all in black in the corner with the hood pulled low to conceal his face in shadows. Odd, that. Most inns in civilized areas did not allow the concealing of one's face, and certainly the ones on the frontier did not. There were laws against it, in fact.
