"The Traveled Road"

Strange. The curves in the road of life, I mean. I know it sounds like the oldest cliché in the book, but such is the simplest way to describe it: the curves in the road of life are nothing less than strange. Perhaps that is the reason this old expression became a cliché in the first place - its absolute truth and definitive bearing in life.

The road a man or woman may travel to find his or her place in life cannot be so easily explained. Unexpected is certainly part of that explanation. So many little choices, so many little unexpected instances that occur - or do not occur - lead to or make up the few great events which define a person's existence. I used to have great trouble grasping this idea. Now, though, I understand it completely. I suppose the twists and turns of my life are a little more outlandish than those of most of the world, and a little more interesting, too, if I may say so, even if they can be depressing at times. There is no way to tell my tale quickly - if I did, you would automatically think less of me. I suppose, having said that much, you will already look upon me through tinted glass. But I think, if I tell it correctly, you will understand why I have made the choices I have made. ...
