David and myself had been friends all our lives. Our parents met in pre-natal class and became friends, so when we were born, we were destined to be friends as well. Over the years we became the best of friends, we did everything together and knew everything there was to know about each other.

Whether it was fate or coincidence or what I don't know, but at David's birthday party, after our other friends had left and it was just him and me in the tent on the back lawn, he confided in me, under strictest confidence that he was gay. That news took me by as much surprise as it did David when I told him I was too.
