Life is funny sometimes, the way it flips you on your head and changes you around. In the blink of an eye, a life once thought worth living may find itself worthless or an oft-considered worthless life may suddenly discover its true impact. These are, of course, rather extreme scenarios, but the basic truths remain the same. Life is lived instant to instant, every second is precious, and what is sacred one moment may circumstantially find itself forsaken in the next.

And yet there is a paradox; it seems most change is gradual. Except for those rare events which define or transform a person's existence, events few and most usually and appropriately far between, the changes wrought by the passing of time are quiet and gentle. Change is so gradual, in fact, that a man may not realize his life has gotten better, or that his life has gotten worse, until it actually has. Such realizations put some men on the path to greatness. Others it drives to the brink of madness, and beyond. ...
