The rain was pouring down heavily, but that didn't bother Phil one bit. He was in for the night and alone, his wife Elaine was off visiting her family and he hadn't felt like going along. Bacheloring it for a few days wasn't going to be too hard on him anyway. There were all sorts of things that he looked forward to with her away, such as catching a movie or going to the new strip club that had opened. Or he could just sit around all night, order in some Chinese and not do a blessed thing. With the weather so poor this night, that was the option he had chosen. Dinner had been delivered quickly and Phil was able to enjoy a beer in front of the TV without anyone nagging him about it. Plus, he could watch whatever he wanted. This is the life, he thought, I oughta have her go see her folks more often. He was just about finished with his second beer, and contemplating a third when the phone rang. Phil stared at it suspiciously. For a moment, he considered ignoring it and letting the machine get it. What the Hell, he decided, may as well see who it is. With that, Phil set his bottle down on the table (no coaster!) and picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Oh, Phil, it's you...this is Sheila." Sheila was one of his wife's friends. Phil thought it was strange of her to call, she knew that his wife wasn't going to be around. Curious as to the nature of the call, Phil listened closely. The line wasn't a good one, it was staticy and noisy. Phil thought he could hear cars in the background.
