I was pleasantly surprised when I got a call recently from Ben, an old Army buddy. He and his German wife Heidi had just moved to my city and lived nearby. Ben and I have stayed in touch over the years, mostly by Christmas card. My wife Laura insisted that I invite them over for dinner that very evening.
