Fruitful Night

I was working late one night last week, another boring night in an endless repetitious circle of such nights. Taking a short break, I stepped outside to get some fresh air. The night was slightly cool for this time of year but the bright star-filled sky was irresistible. Learning back against the wall and just enjoying the quietness of the evening, I watched as several young couples strolled by hand in hand and I sighed softly. "I can still remember when my husband and I did that" I thought to myself, "I wonder what happened." Shaking my head and moving back inside to finish up, the images of the young couples stick with me and I decide to call it a night and get home early for once. Picturing the look on my husband's face when I walk in the door early, I couldn't help but smile.

Pulling up the driveway, I laughed softly as I realized that for the first time in months I'm excited to be home. Entering the house and dropping my bags, I smiled at the look of surprise on his face. "You're home early. Something happen?"

Pulling him into my arms and kissing him long and hard, I grinned widely and nodded my head. "Yes. I missed you."

Staring at me in amazement for long moments he finally found his voice, "B-b-but what about the project? Don't you have to finish it?" ...
