Almost 180 years ago, cloning breached the threshold between copying existing organisms, crossing into the unimaginable realm of manufacturing entirely new creatures. Genetic codes were assembled under the direction of a designer, customizing these new organisms to a customer's desires.

Soon, the CeC (pronounced 'KehK') - Cloning-enhanced Creature - became a mainstay of society. Early examples started as advanced pets and companion-creatures, but science quickly developed organisms with greater strength and intelligence than ever imaginable. Industry made the ultimate decision that machinery and manpower would remain the force of manufacture and creation, so CeCs remained limited to service industries, operating as servants, personal assistants, and widely used in prostitution. Not human, anti-slavery laws did not apply. Not being animals, [censored] and animal cruelty laws did not apply. Despite their power, CeCs remained a consumable product, a tool for daily life.
