I met Josh in the afternoon as he came out from College. We would always cross the park to the cafe on the corner for a late lunch. On this occassion his friend Alex was joining us. I had met Alex once before at a party and he seemed nice.

"Alex is part of a nice surprise for you a little later on and will be coming home with us, if thats okay with you?". Josh sounded a little mysterious and even though i pushed him as to the kind of surprise, he wasn't letting go of any details as yet. None of Josh's friends seemed to have a problem with me being twice his age and we all got on really well. Maybe they had just gotten used to it now after so long.

We ate lunch at the quaint cafe where the staff seemed all to be over retirement age, but it was nice and quiet and you could hold a conversation there. Most of the places to eat were really noisy and catered for the many students of the surrounding colleges. Once a week we came here to relax & eat before catching the train home.

Alex ordered another pot of tea and some delicious fresh fluffy cream doughnuts. None of us really had room but we were determined to squeeze them in just the same. There was still a long queue for tables so we decided to leave as soon as we had finished the tea. The two guys walked either side of me, both over 6ft tall and made me feel so small as we walked to the station. A cold breeze blew down the line through the station and bits of paper & autumn coloured leaves twisted ...
