A SAFE HARBOR IN THE STORM

"You gotta be kidding! What do we do now?" Sean asked incredulously. It was 8:30 p.m. and Sean was speaking to a very harried reservation clerk at the American Airlines counter at the Omaha, Nebraska International Airport.

Sean flew into Omaha that day for a mid-afternoon business meeting. He scheduled a flight back home the same day at 9:30 p.m. Although he would arrive in Austin, Texas around midnight, he felt it was better than spending a night in Omaha, then flying home the next morning. Sean was a good-looking guy, single and 31 years old. He had a great job as a computer software engineer for Dell Computer Company and traveled extensively.

"Sir, I'm very sorry, but we can't control the weather," the reservation clerk said. "We are experiencing heavy snow in this area and we just cannot de-ice our planes or clear runways fast enough. Our first concern is our passenger's safety. All flights are cancelled until further notice. It's doubtful that planes will be flying until tomorrow afternoon."
