The Housekeeper

Mary stalked down the corridor muttering furiously, under her breath of course, after all it would not do for a guest to hear her vitriolic outburst against the house manager. It was the fifth time in a week that Duncan, "snot-nose", had effortlessly managed to piss her off. ‘After all he made out the bloody rotas, he knows I'm due off, now I've got to run sodding towels when I should be on the bus into town to meet David', she seethed silently.

Mary had been at Markham Grange for five years, the majority of it enjoyably, receiving moderate return for moderate effort, this last eight months, however, it seemed to be minimal return for maximum effort. Since Duncan Stewart's arrival the whole of the Grange's housekeeping staff had been re-trained, re-organised and re-motivated. ‘Re-bloody-tarded more like it' Mary opined, under her breath of course, dissent was not acceptable in the Grange's new climate.

So as she made her way to 365 she fulmanated as to why she was the one who had to rectify the mistakes of others, again. ‘If they can't do the job properly they shouldn't be here. Still, if that bastard treated people properly maybe they would be interested in being more careful in the first place', she muttered to herself. Mary stopped outside 365 and listened, no sounds came from the other side of the door, she knocked..., no answer. She took the pass-key out of her apron pocket, ...
