2215: Earth

At the Eagle's Nest docking station, three thousand and forty miles outside of the Earth's atmosphere, Franklin DeGrasso crossed over the threshold of the interstellar cruise ship Nebular Beauty two feet behind his impeccably coiffed and cultured wife, Celine. As usual, she was complaining.

"Shoddy workmanship, Franklin, this ship is simply shameful!" she was saying in her natural, high pitched nasal tone of voice. "The carpets are cheap, and look, paint instead of wall coverings. My, this is certainly a second-rate space ship. Thank you for completely ruining my vacation, Franklin."

She intimidated Franklin. After twenty-seven years of marriage, Celine was a money-grubbing ball breaker with no concern for her husband's wants, needs or feelings. In truth, if he had more balls, he would have divorced her before the birth of their first child twenty-five years earlier. But, as usual, he was led by the desires of others, and stayed married to her to please his family. At first he continued with the marriage for their three children who had, over time, turned out exactly like their mother. If he were to file for divorce now that they were grown, Celine would be able to take half of his fortune. He hadn't toiled for dozens of years buying and selling inter-stellar stocks to allow her to take away his money now. ...
