There has to be some benefits to being a traveling salesman other than making good money. Spending three or four nights a week in motel rooms usually isn't the most exciting of times, but then - there is that one night.

It had been a long day, and I was driving about my usual speed, 80 mph, heading east on US24 toward Smith Center. My reservations had been made a month earlier on my last trip to town, so I wasn't hurrying on that account. The weather looked like a storm was brewing, and I wanted to get off the road, take a hot shower and get a bite to eat. After that, I was planning on working up my orders and get some sleep. <Just five mile to go>, I thought, listening to music on the radio. As I sped past, it registered on my mind that the engine was in the back, and if the rear was up, someone was having car trouble. Looking in the rearview mirror, I saw what I thought to be a female getting out of the car. Immediately, my foot hit the brake pedal and as soon as I got the car stopped and after checking to see that no one was coming from either direction, I made a quick U-turn and headed back.

When I passed the car again, my suspicions were confirmed. There was a young female bending over, peering into the engine compartment. I made another U-turn and pulled up behind her car. ...
