It was almost midnight and the rain was pouring down in sheets. Thunder roared and lightening lit up the sky in violent flashes of light. Carrie was on her way home after spending the evening in town watching movies with friends. The rain was coming down so hard, that she had to slow to a crawl to prevent driving off the road. Her wipers were on high speed, in a frantic effort to clear her windshield.

Squinting at the road, in deep concentration, she couldn't help but see the man walking on the side of the road. He was trying desperately to keep his raincoat closed against the driving wind and rain. The hood of his car was up, and he was walking away from it, shaking his head in frustration. Carrie wasn't sure if she should stop and offer her assistance. After all, she didn't know him. For all she knew, he could be a psychotic serial killer. Shaking her head at her trustfulness, she pulled over onto the shoulder of the road, waiting for him to catch up to her car.

Rolling down the passenger window as he walked up, she asked him, "Hey, do you need a lift?"

"Yes, I sure do! Thanks", he said as he opened the door and got into the warm car . "Where are you headed? What happened to your car?" she asked.

"I'm headed to Oregon, going to get married this weekend. Oh, my name is ...
