Just like a normal Saturday morning today I was headed over to Terri's to hang out by the pool before we head off to watch the game. It was one of the few college rituals I'd preserved into adulthood, and even the arrival on the scene of Nick, Terri's boyfriend, didn't change things.

Dumping the beer in the shade and my towel and t-shirt on the deck I dived into the warm water. Refreshing in the stifling morning sun, I splashed around a while cooling off. After ten minutes or so it occurred to me I was still on my own with no sign of my hosts. Usually one or both would come and stick the beer in the fridge then join me in the sun and water.

I dripped my way across the decking over to the back door. Cupping my hands around my eyes I peered through the glazed door into the darkened room. No one. Odd. I tried to door and it slide open silently. "Yello?" ...
