To start seeing the real Nevada, drive well north of Las Vegas and stay put on one of the state's many lonesome roads for a good spell. It's mile-high country out there, some places much higher. Far-flung hamlets. Remote people. Remote lives.

Those places seemed perfect for Jessica and I when we rolled out of the City of Lost Wages, fully intent on starting new lives in new jobs far from Sin City.
