Lisa was whistling away in the kitchen as she went about preparing stacks of food for the new years eve party we were holding tonight. As for me I was moving the furniture around so that there would be plenty of room for dancing or just standing around. I placed the sofa and all the various chairs against the wall and the odd bits of furniture I moved to another room.

I was really looking forward to the party tonight, we had invited all our close friends and their partners, if they all turned up there would be twenty-four couples in all. To me that is the way to see in the New Year with your closest friends and plenty to eat and drink.

By the time I had re-arranged all the furniture the sweat was pouring off me and I needed a drink, okay it was only four in the afternoon but a beer sounded pretty good to me, might as well start early.

"Ice," she said, "we've forgotten the ice, can you go and buy some from the supermarket," she continued. ...
