It was thirty years since I had seen Dirk. I was on my way to work when I ran into him. He was doing an early morning jog through the park that fringed the city I now live in. We were a thousand miles away from where we grew up and I couldn't believe the odds of meeting him again in this way.

We had been the best of buddies in the last couple of years at college. We were both athletic and had a similar interest in music. I played the piano while he played saxophone. When our class got together to party, we were the entertainers.

Our paths took us in different directions and we lost touch with each other. I had moved south to the big smoke and Dirk had gone to university in another city.

"Jock," he called almost bowling me over.

"Dirk," I responded taking a moment to collect my thoughts.
