A Controlling Boss

I am a young man of little financial means, working in a grocery store doing all that is requested of me as a good employee should. I got along very well with the manager, Herman has taken me under his wing and we have had lunch together on occasion, he is easy to talk to. We have discussed many things together both personally and professionally but I thought nothing of it until one day I overheard a conversation between my coworkers during a break.
