The Bourbon Street Shot Girl

I was in New Orleans last week for a hearing (maritime lawyers, even from the Northwest, get to New Orleans regularly because of the port). One of my partners accompanied me to argue some of the motions that were pending. It was a long but generally successful day.

The hearing lasted all afternoon making it impossible to catch a flight home that evening. Bryan and I were staying at the Ritz Carlton on Canal so we walked into the Quarter for dinner around 7. We had a good, but expensive, dinner at Brennan's, then wandered up to Bourbon Street for a drink and some scenery.

July is the slowest month in New Orleans. It is extremely hot and humid every day. It is the start of hurricane season. It rains every day. There are very few conventions. Most tourists avoid the area. But we were there. And Bourbon Street is Bourbon Street, a street that never sleeps, even on a Tuesday night in July.

There were a fair number of people on the street. Bryan and I walked a few blocks back and forth looking at the ladies. Given the temperature in the high eighties and today's fashions there were plenty of scantily dressed young women, plus the odd mixture of society matrons, business wives and Hicksville tourists that finds its way into the Quarter. Bryan and I finally went into a club several blocks from Canal Street ...
