The Pledge Contest

"Girls, we have a problem." The speaker was Alicia Thomas, president of sigma house sorority. Alicia was one of those extremely pretty girls who also was very likeable. She was president of the most prestigious sorority on campus.

"We have a situation that needs to be resolved. In our current pledge class we have two girls who are both excellent candidates but they continue to not get along with one another." The two girls were myself, Linda Ross, and my nemesis, Gina Tosci. Alicia was absolutely right. The goal of a sorority was sisterhood. Both Gina and I got along famously with the other girls in the sorority and the pledge class but she and I were like oil and water.

Alicia continued her address to the sisters and the pledges, "We have several options available to us. We could drop both of them in the interest of harmony. We could let both of them join and risk the damage of an ongoing feud on the house. We could randomly select one of them over the other. Or, we could use the ritual pledge contest to determine which one to admit and which one to drop." At this comment some of the sisters seemed a little shocked about the last suggestion. However, without any discussion Alicia called for a vote of just the members.
