"Good morning, Mistress Rosella," was the next sound that Anteros heard.

It was the voice of Rosella's aide, Iole. Anteros looked at her through sleepy eyes. It was still dark but Iole carried a candle.

"Good morning, Iole," Rosella answered.

There was not a hint of fatigue or weakness in Rosella's voice. Her voice was strong and clear. Anteros wondered how her first words of the day sounded so normal. It always took him several minutes before his voice recovered from a good night of sleep.
