"Good morning, Mister Kline," Ellen said as she opened the door of the managing partner's office after knocking discreetly. "Can you spare a minute?"

"For you, baby, any time," the impecably groomed lawyer said from behind his big desk. He motioned Ellen to a chair beside it.

As she sat and crossed her legs, Lou Kline smoothed his mustache with a finger and looked over the merchandise. He had a reputation as the law firm's resident cocksman and had made moves on Ellen a couple of times in the past, which she had gracefully deflected. Today, however, she was devoid of defenses.

"What can I do for you, dear?" Lou asked in the suave way that worked well on juries and female prey alike.

"Well, as you know, I've been employed here for two years," Ellen said, "and I'm studying for the bar with the firm as my sponsor. I usually work with Mister Saunders, but since I am asking for a leave of absence I was told I should speak with you."
