It had been about three years since our bus encounter. Kat and I had tried to stay in touch, but she was off to college, I was off to a different college and with all the changes in addresses, we stopped writing (this was before email afterall). I had often thought back to the night on the bus on our way home from Dallas. What if I would have picked the same college Kat was going to, what if I would have tried harder to stay in contact. The thoughts would help me drift to sleep at night.

So, here I am, three years after being in Dallas and now I am in Atlanta for a huge convention, and as I walk down the street who do I see but Kat! I knew it was her, she knew it was me so we approached one another to make idle small talk.

It seems she graduated from college and was trying to figure out what to do next, I was getting ready to take a year off to travel and see some sites. After about 15 minutes we both knew we had places to be, so we exchanged phone numbers, addresses, and hotel information and promised to be in touch.

As the conference went on, we played phone tag at our hotels, trying to leave enough information for the other that we would possibly be able to contact each other, but not so much that the others in our rooms would know that something was going on.
