As she made her way down a quiet outer city street to a distant bus terminal, where street lamps slowly flickered into wakefulness Gloria ached from the aftermath of a very full Saturday. Volunteer work at the local school had become more than just a hobby. Since her parents were quite wealthy her father offered to pay her instead of her taking a part time job somewhere else away from someone who really needed it. After days like today she wondered if he was paying her enough. Little kids could be such terrors, although she smiled fondly to herself even as the negative thought perished.

Gloria loved playing big sister and wouldn't quit for the world. Even the accident not two days earlier, which had totalled her car, couldn't prevent her coming in. She was shaken, but unharmed apart from a bruised leg, so how could she be selfish and disappoint the children who so looked forward to seeing her. The only downside of course, was taking the bus across town, as she had only really driven to and from the school and didn't know the surrounding area. Add to that the long walk to the terminal put a strain on her leg, which she should have been resting.

The first heavy drops of rain broke her reverie, then, startled into wakefulness by the sudden downpour, Gloria drew her coat about her slender frame and darted down the unfamiliar street searching for a ...
