My wife and I were pleased when some friends of ours invited us to go with them for a week at their cabin in the Ozarks. We had known Bill and Debbie for several years and always had a good time when we were with them. Bill was very calm and nothing seemed to bother him, while Debbie was always very hyper and full of energy. They were, very similar in nature to my wife Katherine and I.

We decided to travel together and share the driving since the trip was about 24 hours of driving time. We had decided that we would only stop for gas and restroom breaks so that we could get there in a little over a day. We worked out a driving and sleeping schedule so that each person drove for three hours, one of the others would ride shotgun to help with directions and to help make sure the driver stayed alert and awake. The other two would crash on the mattress that was in the back of the van while all of our luggage rode in the cartop carrier.

We started the trip after work on Friday and by the time we got everything loaded and got on the road, it was already almost dark. Bill started the drive with Debbie riding shotgun, and Katherine and I decided to get some rest though we didn't think we would be able to sleep this early. I was to take over riding shotgun for Debbie when she took over for Bill driving. After about an hour of snuggling I could tell that Katherine had fallen asleep. I dozed off and before I knew it Bill was shaking my shoulder telling me that it was my turn to ride shotgun. I moved Katherine's arm off of me, taking care not to wake ...
