It was a beautiful Saturday morning for our first soccer game for the season. My team was ready for the game since we have been practicing for four weeks prior to this first game. I coach an Under 10 boys team and have been for three years. It has been a lot of fun as my team is one of the best teams in the league having won the majority of our games and have attended the playoffs for the past two seasons.

It's been kind of tough being divorced these past few years in my early forties but I have really enjoyed the time it has given me to participate in the things that I really like to do. Coaching a soccer team has been a real exciting and pleasurable thing to do especially since my team has done so well over the past two years.

But on this morning I am kind of pissed off because we are here at 9 AM sharp for our game and we don't have a referee. After a few minutes wait a gangly young boy comes trotting over to our field to ref the game. After I asked him why he was late he gave me some lame excuse and he checked the player's equipment and we began the match.

Our team had an excellent game that morning and won 5 to 1. It was an outstanding performance by both our defence and our attacking forwards. I already was thinking about reaching the playoffs again this year. But after the game I wanted to talk to a league manger about the referee situation. Little did I know how that conversation would provide me with the most interesting development in this coming soccer season. ...
