The twined and rowed seats are made of fabric that feels like harsh side of velcro, made bearable only by the softening wear of hundreds of other passengers. In one grouping of these scotch-guarded seats I sit, paired with my boy.

"Could I have a kiss?" He asks and I comply with a brush against the lips. We won't be the teenage couple frenching in the back of the bus.

"Aww, God. Come on guys. I won't have you snogging the whole drive," a friend's voice pierces from the seat behind us.
