The pool table at the bar in Slidell is way at the back, practically a room to itself. We were having a friendly game or two, boys against the girls. It had been a long day out on the water and an evening in a cool bar was pleasant.

There were four of us: myself and Alison, Ted and Pauline. Ted and I were dressed in the standard uniform for men in southern Louisiana: comfortable shorts, loose shirts. Ted's in good shape for a man in his sixties, over six feet tall, lean and weathered from 40 years in the U.S. Navy. I'm twenty-some years younger, but wouldn't bet on me against Ted in an arm-wrestle.

Pauline, she's much better to look at bent over the pool table. She's petite, and although 60 has a sexy, well-toned body that just about any 30-year-old would be happy with.
