The Teddy Bear

We'd be touching down in about two hours. Gazing into the night canopy, one could behold a million dancing stars dotting the Australian sky, and out on the horizon, the light of a bright full moon revealed chips of missing paint from the wing below my window. My week in New York filled with interviews, dining, and sight seeing, had almost kept me from my regular Friday evening with Holly. I was not due back until Saturday afternoon, but a chance effort to get an earlier flight had paid off. I could be knocking on her door by 9:00 PM. We'd have the whole night together and she would have her surprise tonight, rather than in the office on Monday morning. I absently stroked the small nametag pinned to the blue vest of a very handsome teddy bear.

He had caught my eye as I passed a gift shop, while walking to baggage claim in the J F K international terminal. It had cost $25 extra to have it hand sewn on his vest. That was a small investment for the smile I knew it would bring to Holly's face each time she looked at "Jerome." He was there, ready and waiting for me when I came in this morning.
