The people in my neighborhood are friendly and outgoing, for the most part. Surprisingly, this was somewhat of a problem for me, at first. The reason being is that I love to walk, and not talk while doing so. But, many of the daily walkers really wanted to visit with their friends rather than get the benefit to be derived from this exercise.

Several of the people that live here assumed that this was my objective also. But, as time went by, they understood and abided by my wishes so they accepted my nods and saying good morning and we left it at that.

One morning as I left my house, a man that lives two houses down from me came out and started walking, also. I was slightly ahead of him.

He quickly caught up with me asked if he could walk along side of me. I told him that I just wanted to walk and not talk. He said that he understood, but that it would be somewhat awkward for one or the other of us to be directly in front or behind the other, which made sense, so we continued on our way without speaking.

Much to my surprise, I found that I actually enjoyed walking beside him.

When we reached my house, we paused and I asked him if he walked regularly. He said that he did, but it was earlier in the morning since he had to be at work at eight. ...
