This story takes place in 1990, is true, and was finally written and posted in 2005.

I was 21 and had just moved to Florida with my Mom and brother, intending on helping her settle into a house and get a place of my own after a bit. Along with my Aunt and Uncle, we had just driven some 1000 miles straight from Upstate New York, minus stops for food, gas and restroom use, and we were exhausted when we stopped at the first motel we came to in Orange Park, a suburb of Jacksonville. The next morning after not enough sleep, we met with Kay, my mom's friend and followed her to the new house, which was very nice having not seen it first. Even after the long 2 days spent getting there and little sleep, we spent most of that day unpacking the huge U-Haul, the borrowed minivan and our own Dodge. That night we stayed with Kay in her huge mansion like home also on the outskirts of Jacksonville. This story begins when I meet Kay's daughter in a most unexpected way the next morning.

I dragged myself up out of bed at 7:00 am and stared out the window waiting for my turn in the bathroom, one of 3 in Kay's huge house that all were being used this morning. It was an odd adjustment not having to get ready for work or even worry about a job, at least for a few ...
