I leaned over his broad shoulders, attempting to snatch the newspaper from his hands, trying to avert his attention back to something worth tuning into—me. As my long blonde hair wisped over his neck he shook his head, his arm swinging wide away, holding the paper aloft. "Sophie," he said, his voice sounding more bored than upset, "go find something to do and leave me be."

I straightened my back and stood behind him, looking down, he resumed his newspaper reading. I never understood the value of a newspaper, what did the media propaganda matter? If you wanted news, you should get off your butt and go outside, listen to the wind, follow the birds, watch the sky...there was your news. I couldn't help the frown that came over me then, not just my face, but my entire body—I felt like nothing but a frown, and it didn't feel good. I finally stepped away from him, I looked around the study...it was a room eaten up with brown leather, forest green, smelly chronicles of god knows what, and heavy drapes. I hated it...all of it. When had my life become a study with heavy drapes? I left quickly, stumbling over the two hundred pound Rottweiler on the floor—how did I come to own a Rottweiler?
