A Flash of LightingThe doorbell rang. As I walked over to the door, I caught a glimpse out the window and my heart immediately started pounding out of my chest. There in the twilight stood Erica.
I had run into Erica last night back in my hometown. Like nearly every small, midwest town, mine had a yearly town-wide celebration, complete with a carnival, baseball games, street dances and, of course, a parade. That weekend also usually plays host to class reunions for alumni of River County High School. I was back for my 10-year high school reunion and Erica was back for her fifth. It turned out that she had just moved into the same city I lived in, about an hour's drive from our hometown. I jotted down my address and told her to stop on in if she ever felt like it.
