Ken turned off the highway into the Hotel driveway and drove to the general car park at the rear. The complex was made up of two buildings. The main one housed Reception, Tavern/Bistro and Convention facilities. The second was a two storey motel block located to one side. Ken parked his car and walked to Reception where he booked in to the motel for one night. With key in hand he returned to his car to retrieve a bag then went across to the motel and upstairs to Room 18.

The unit was standard motel lay-out. Open the door and to the right there is a bathroom with basin, toilet and shower over bath. To the left there is a short cupboard with tea/coffee making facilities then a wardrobe which lead on to a bench with TV, mirror and writing desk. The furniture consisted of a 4 foot round table with two chairs and a double bed with bedside cabinets. Full length curtains covered the windows.

Ken checked his watch - half past one in the afternoon. He quickly set about taking a number of items from the bag he carried and arranged them about the room. Next, standing on one of the chairs he used a stud-finder to locate a ceiling rafter. He drilled a small hole through the plaster ceiling and in to the rafter above. Into the hole he screwed a 3 inch hook and tested it for strength. It would do. A quick clean-up with a battery powered vacuum and he was done. Satisfied everything was as he wanted he left the room making sure the door was unlocked. ...
