Even though the downtown area had been in decay for quite some time, the few stores that still remained there managed to have quite a bit of charm for this old New England town. Their brick exteriors in particular had a real look to them during this rather beautiful fall day where the sun shone down through the colored leaves and cast such a light on the street and the few people that were milling about during the early afternoon hour, most of them returning to work. The leaves crinkled under his feet and as he kicked a few of them playfull as he got towards the end of the street and pulled the old wooden door open. Almost out of some old time show, the jingle sound from the door opening felt resonated into the room.With the building being as old as it was and designed in a time when people simply were smaller, the front room wasn't terribly large but it housed a surprising number of odds and ends and other antiques and curios. A small table could hold so many fascinating little things but like many stores of this nature, as fascinating as they were, they rarely if ever sold. In fact, his reason for being there was that something had sold but it wasn't what it was supposed to be and he needed to get it replaced with what he had actually wanted from the store. Coming downtown wasn't on his usual list of things to do as most everyone avoided it in favor of the upscale malls and stripmalls on the outside of town or the next town over but he was surprised to find such an appealing little art object here when he visited before after stopping at the town hall. ...
