Old friends

I couldn't believe the news as I hung up the phone. A good friend of mine, Mike had called to tell me that a longtime friend of ours had passed away. It has been 4 years since I moved away, and although I had tried, as is always the case, I grew apart from my old friends. I had heard that he was having some problems, but every time I had tried to call him, he wasn't home. I knew in my heart that I should have tried harder, but my job has kept me so busy that the time just seemed to slip by. Now with this news, I realize that I need to find the time to keep in touch with those I love.

Mike had called to tell me that since our friend had no family other then an old girlfriend who was still married, that there was not going to be a funeral. He told me that him and some of my other old friends were going to have a pool tournament to celebrate his life. Being an avid pool player all of his life, and the one who taught me how to play, I agreed that would be a great idea. He was insistent that I make the trip to send our old friend off properly. I tried to tell him that since just moving into a new home with my husband, that money was tight and I wasn't sure if that would be possible. Since the tournament was 4 weeks way, he told me not to worry, we would figure something out.
