A Heat Wave Study Break

Rachel knew she was living on borrowed time with her air conditioner. And, true to Murphy's Law, it had to break the week before her organic chemistry exam. Opening up the cover panel and jiggling a few things worked the first time, but now the thing was officially on the fritz and the A/C repair places weren't even emptying their full voicemail boxes now that the heat wave of the season had hit and about 7,000 of her fellow neighbors were making the same service call for help she was.

"Oh well, this stupid organic chemistry test is tomorrow and these covalent bonds aren't going to study themselves," Rachel thought as she tried to muster some enthusiasm for academia. "I opened every window in the apartment...why isn't there any breeze?!" she yelled to no one in particular. Pouring herself a tall glass of ice water from the fridge, Rachel vowed to stop procrastinating and sat down at the kitchen table to begin studying. While beads of sweat occasionally dropped off her forehead and on the pages of her textbook, Rachel was comforted by the observation that the drops evaporated before they could smudge the page. "This is completely insane," Rachel thought to herself.

Realizing that she was currently the only resident of the house who walked upright, Rachel decided it was silly to sit in here in a shirt ...
